Program Policies
Guidelines to ensure safety, fairness, and access for all families
SED has established policies and procedures that ensure every enrolled child's safety and their enjoyment of all the enrichment and fun our programs provide. While space in SED is limited, our policies are designed to promote fairness and access for as many families as possible.
-
NO STUDENT IS EVER AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED in SED. It is CRITICAL that parents complete every step of the enrollment process each year. Space is limited in our programs and enrollment is not guaranteed.
Information about SED's program, philosophy, and policies is available in our Parent Handbook.

When Changes Can Be Made
Schedule changes can only be implemented on or after January 1st and will be processed on a quarterly basis. Exceptions will only be made in the case of extenuating circumstances or with administrative approval.
Schedule Change Deadlines
For changes effective January 1st:
Request must be submitted by: November 30th
Revised billing begins: December 5th
For changes effective April 1st:
Request must be submitted by: February 28th
Revised billing begins: March 5th
Schedule Change Fee: $45 per student for each request processed
A schedule change form must be submitted by the deadlines above. Requests received after the deadline but before the start of the calendar month will see adjustments made in the next billing cycle.
Early Schedule Reduction
Families may choose to reduce schedules prior to January, but will be responsible for their contracted tuition through December.
Increasing Enrollment
Parents who wish to increase their child's enrollment in the program are advised to contact the office. Changes in enrollment are made on a space available basis.
-
Parents who wish to withdraw their child from the program must give thirty (30) days notice in writing of their intention to do so and complete a schedule change form.
During this 30-day period, parents remain responsible for the monthly tuition
Withdrawal Fee: Withdrawing from SED during the program year will result in a $250 withdrawal fee

Elementary Programs
We do not allow children to use personal electronic devices at SED. We believe that social interaction and physical play—which is the hallmark of the SED program—are compromised when children choose their screens over group participation.
With permission, a student may use their personal phone briefly to contact a parent
Students may use the SED phone if they need to make a phone call
Students are asked to leave their devices in their backpacks while at SED
Middle School Programs
Middle school students are allowed to use their Chromebooks during homework time, in accordance with the current electronics policy in the Curtis SED Handbook. In addition, middle school students may bring their personal devices to a holiday or vacation program.

Notification Requirement
If your child will be absent on a particular day for any reason, or is sent home sick from school, you must notify the SED staff before 1:00 p.m. (or 10:00 a.m. on Early Release days).
Important: Sudbury Public Schools is a separate entity and does not inform SED of any absences, so you must notify both the school and SED.
Contact your child's site directly to report absences.
Emergency Missing Child Plan
Unless we are notified of your child's absence, your child will be considered missing if he/she does not arrive at SED at the appropriate time. An Emergency Missing Child Plan will be implemented.
Every effort will be made to locate your child including:
Holding school buses at the school to search for your child
Calling parent(s) contact numbers
Calling your emergency contacts
Contacting local authorities
Searching for a child removes a teacher from the supervision of children arriving to the program. It is a potential safety hazard. Therefore, SED imposes search fees if the Emergency Missing Child Plan needs to be implemented.
Missing Child Search Fee:
$25 for the first instance
$50 for each instance thereafter
-
During inclement weather, Sudbury Extended Day follows the Sudbury Public Schools weather-related closings and early dismissals.
When Sudbury Public Schools are closed: SED is also closed
When Sudbury Public Schools has a delayed opening: There is NO morning SED, but afternoon SED is held as usual
When Sudbury Public Schools has an early closing, or cancels afternoon activities: There is no afternoon SED
SED makes every effort to contact our community regarding closings either via email or posts on our webpage.
Cold Weather Gear
We value outdoor play at SED and try to get outside each day when weather permits. Please ensure your child has appropriate snow gear for outdoor recreation daily.
Hats and gloves are particularly prone to go missing, so if you have any extras at home, we are happy to keep them at SED. We appreciate your help with this!

Pick-Up Deadline
SED's latest pick-up time is 6:15 p.m.
The Sudbury Public Schools has determined that all persons must be out of the building no later than 6:30 p.m. Therefore, parents MUST pick up their child by 6:15 p.m.
Late Pick-Up Fee
There are no exceptions to this policy.
$2.00 per minute will be charged for any pick-ups after 6:15 p.m.
Parents will be billed for late fees and they will appear on your monthly statement. Parents who are habitually late will be asked to make other emergency pick-up arrangements for their child.
