About Us
Sudbury's After School Community Since 1984.
Where children play, explore, and grow in a safe, nurturing environment.
Who We Are
Our Mission
Sudbury Extended Day (SED) serves the Sudbury community as an independent, not-for-profit family service offering quality before and after-school childcare for grades K-8, including Early Release Wednesday coverage and select school holiday and vacation week programs. Our program follows the Sudbury Public Schools calendar.
We believe children learn best through play. Our programs encourage curiosity, creativity, and connection—helping every child grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually in a supportive environment that celebrates their individuality.
The Mission of Sudbury Extended Day is to provide the children of Sudbury's working parents with nurturing before and after school programs that offer diverse opportunities for enrichment, exploration, and the development of social skills.
The SED Difference
What makes our programs special
Community Connection
Established by parents, for parents in 1984, SED has grown to serve over 600 children across seven locations. We're more than a program—we're Sudbury's trusted neighborhood for after-school care.
Individual Growth
We value each child's uniqueness and encourage exploration at their own pace. Our play-based approach balances structure with the creative freedom kids need to discover their interests.
Safe Haven
Professional staff create supportive, nurturing environments with an emphasis on outdoor play and wellness. Parents trust us to provide a safe space where every child is seen and cared for.
Enrichment Focus
From arts and crafts to nature studies, sports to reading, our diverse activities prioritize social and emotional development alongside academic enrichment. Learning happens through play.
Our History
Sudbury Extended Day was established in 1984 by parents needing extended care for their elementary school children after the regular school day ended. What began as a small program has grown significantly over four decades.
Today, SED continues to serve the Sudbury community as a private, non-profit before and after-school program for grades K-8, operating across seven locations including all four elementary schools, Curtis Middle School, First Parish Church and St. Elizabeth’s Church.
