Frequently Asked Questions
Is SED connected to Sudbury Public Schools or the Town of Sudbury?
No. SED is a private, independent, not-for-profit organization overseen by a volunteer parent board and is neither financed nor governed by the school, the town or the PTO.
Who oversees Sudbury Extended Day?
SED is governed by a Parent Board made up of parent volunteers whose children are enrolled in the program and the Executive Director of the program. The Board oversees the finances and functioning of the program, represents the families enrolled in the program, and supports the Executive Director and the staff. Board members are not compensated for their service in any way.
SED operates under license from and supervision by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. To ensure compliance with EEC policies and procedures, all SED locations undergo a surprise annual inspection by the EEC.
Why is my child(ren) on the waitlist?
Once we reach our licensed capacity at a site, all non-enrolled children are placed on a waitlist.
How long should I expect to be on the waitlist?
Each year, enrollment requests vary based on the demographics of the town. Waitlists are maintained by site. Some sites have longer waitlists than others. We make every effort to accommodate as many children as possible. There is no set time you can expect to be on the waitlist. As spots become available (due to attrition, schedule change requests, families moving out of town, etc.), we will offer them to families in order on the waitlist.
If I am on the waitlist, do I need to re-register for the next school year?
No. We have a rolling waitlist, so you do not need to re-register each year. You will continue to move up the waitlist as space becomes available. We will reach out to you when we can offer you a partial or full enrollment, based on your request and if space becomes available.
Does SED provide care on Early Release Days?
Yes. There are nineteen Wednesdays, including the last day of school, designated as Early Release days for the Sudbury Public Schools. SED plans a variety of onsite theme days and field trips over the course of the year. The cost of the field trips and theme days is included in the tuition should you elect care for Wednesdays. Field trips are planned by each site and are subject to change; any changes in program plans will be communicated by the Site Coordinators. Each location distributes a monthly newsletter that contains an activities calendar, a snack calendar and important information about planned activities and field trips for the upcoming month.
Does SED provide care on school holidays and over vacation weeks?
SED offers Holiday & Vacation programming on select days throughout year. Planned dates for each year are announced prior to the start of the school year and typically include the following:
Rosh Hashanah (if it falls on a school day)
Yom Kippur (if it falls on a school day)
Veteran’s Day (if it falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday)
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Teacher Professional Day
Tuesday – Friday of February Vacation week
Tuesday – Friday of April Vacation week
The cost of these programs is $100.00 per day and includes 9.5 hours of care as well as crafts, snacks, and the cost of any trip or show. These programs are not included in the regular monthly tuition; parents are expected to pay at the time of registration. Waitlisted families who are admitted to the program after registration closes will be billed separately.
If I need occasional care on a day that my child is not enrolled, is that possible?
If parents have an occasional need for an additional day of care, arrangements can be made in advance on a space available basis with the Site Coordinator. Please call or email the site directly. If you arrange for your child to come as a space available on a particular day, you will be charged for that day, whether your child attends or not. Elementary Schools are $15/mornings and $45/afternoons. Curtis Middle School is $20/mornings and $35/afternoons. Space available enrollment is not available on Early Release Wednesdays.
Does SED provide food during the program?
SED provides a healthy daily snack at each program site, following the USDA guidelines for school snacks. Snack menus are distributed monthly by site. SED does not provide lunches on Early Release Wednesdays, so parents should send a peanut and tree nut free lunch on those days. All sites are tree nut/peanut free. Please inform SED during the enrollment process if your child has any food allergy and/or dietary restrictions. Elimination of food items (other than tree nuts or peanuts) at sites based on children’s allergies will be decided by the Site Coordinator.
Does SED provide care over the summer?
No. SED runs its programs during the academic year and does not provide services in the summer.
Do you offer financial aid?
We accept Massachusetts state child care vouchers. If you have questions or if you believe you qualify, please call Seven Hills Foundation and Affiliates at (508) 755-2340. SED also offers some limited, need-based financial aid. To apply for this assistance, please complete our application form and provide all supporting documents listed.
